MAAE and NALC: Together Supporting Arts Learning
In early 2006, we began thinking about joining forces with our friends and colleagues at NALC (The National Arts and Learning Collaborative), which is located in Natick, Massachusetts. NALC, an organization that we have worked with closely in the past, has a mission that fits nicely with ours: They work to "transform schools by providing students with opportunities to learn in and through the arts."
After a few months of discussion, a new partnership was born - one that allowed each of us to maintain our individuality while sharing operational costs, therefore creating cost-cutting measures that often plague non profits. Our combined efforts will only strengthen our cause to bring high quality arts education to all students in Massachusetts.
The partnership became official in May, 2006 with a generous grant from the Boston Foundation to support the operational transition and collaborative efforts.
The long term benefits of the MAAE and NALC partnership will be:
- Children who are better prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century at work, at home, and in the community, due to engagement in sequential, comprehensive arts education.
- An expanded network of individual and organizations fluent in arts education issues that can be called upon to support arts education policies at the state level.
- An alliance adept at building support for and providing arts education programs in communities across Massachusetts.
